The short essays in this book are about a young wife’s coming to terms with love, marriage, sexual desire, childbirth, her relationships with her three children, her husband, and her own parents and siblings. The author is most touching when she writes on the trials and fulfillments of bringing up her special child, a first-born with an undefined disability. She is funny when she recounts the unrequited love of her student days and her juggling of roles as mother, wife, teacher, and graduate student.
