Luto, Linis, Laba is Alfred A. Yuson’s 20th book, and his first written in Filipino. Other works, all in English, include novels, poetry and short fiction collections, essay compilations, stories for children, biographies, translations, and a travel book.

As a manuscript, Luto, Linis, Laba won the top prize in the Full-Length Play Category, Filipino Division, of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 2000.

The Play was produced as a World Premiere Presentation by Qbd Ink in The Writer’s Center in Bethesda, Maryland, USA in March 2003, with a cast of Filipino Americans.

Director Remé Grefalda, herself a Palanca-winning playwright, and like Yuson an original member of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) in Manila, writes of the production:

“From the title alone, it exudes a come-hither charm. One of my concerns in mounting this play written by Alfred ‘Krip’ Yuson was to keep this ‘charm’ intact from script to stage so the play retains the same pulsating quality for audiences to bring home.

“This is not a romantic love story but it is a love story nonetheless. Yuson’s play embodies and enhances the concept of Love in the form of nurturing given and taken for granted, in friendships that prove that Love can conquer all, in the solidarity and gracious truth of caring and watching out for one another.”
